Art and design cannot exist without the hands and soul of the artist. With a passion for nature, the richness of tradition, and the essence of life in Vietnam, Như Hồng has crafted her own unique language of creativity.
As the founder and visionary, during the late 1990s, fashion designer and artist Ngô Như Hồng inherited the essence of traditional Vietnamese craftsmanship. She became the first and only Vietnamese woman to demonstrate traditional hand-weaving techniques on an international stage, sharing the story of Vietnam’s artisanal weaving heritage with the world. This milestone was achieved at an international fair held in Dijon, France.
In 2016, her remarkable journey reached new heights when she collaborated with the Vietnamese court. Như Hồng successfully presented the first-ever design for Vietnam’s judge attire to the National Assembly.
With a profound love for her homeland’s cultural and traditional values, Như Hồng has woven stories and philosophies into her designs. Her work on judge robes reflects this deeply: the number 8 symbolizes the “Noble Eightfold Path,” the number 5 conveys balance, black embodies loyalty and supreme authority, while the red and yellow of Vietnam’s national flag. This is the message that the designer wants to share through the core values of designs.
Embarking on her career within the flow of contemporary fashion, Như Hồng drew inspiration from the áo tứ thân (the predecessor of the Vietnamese áo dài). Her designs received acclaim from elite British fashion experts, who praised her work as “a new aesthetic, pioneering in the development of the fashion industry” and “designs never seen before.”
With deep respect and dedication to honoring Vietnam’s traditional values, NHUHONG seeks to revive ancient inspirations and connect them with modernity through shapes, colors, patterns, and contemporary techniques. From fine arts to craftsmanship, NHUHONG celebrates the uniqueness of Vietnam’s native materials and symbolic motifs, blending philosophy and culture to tell the story of a timeless Asian heritage.
